These are two halves of one job
It is worth being blunt, because the vendor category listings blur this. Halo's own products — HaloITSM, HaloPSA, HaloCRM — sit on a shared data model and are about the work: incidents, change management, a service catalogue, and, in the PSA, the contract and billing wrapper around client work. NinjaOne is explicit that it is not a CRM and has no sales or relationship features; it is an RMM. It monitors, patches, and repairs Windows, macOS, and Linux fleets.
An MSP running Halo without an RMM has beautiful tickets and no way to fix the laptop. An MSP running NinjaOne without a PSA can patch 4,000 endpoints and cannot bill for the work coherently. The two products are far more often deployed together than chosen against each other, and if you are genuinely torn, the honest answer is usually that you have two problems.
The unit you are billed in
This is the cleanest practical distinction, and it changes the shape of your bill entirely.
NinjaOne is per device, typically $2–$3.75/device/month depending on volume, quote-based, with support, onboarding, and standard implementation included at no extra cost and a 14-day trial with no credit card. That model rewards scale: a fleet of 3,000 endpoints managed by four engineers is cheap per head and reasonable per device. It punishes the opposite shape — under roughly 50 devices, per-device pricing looks expensive next to a flat-rate alternative.
Halo does not publish pricing at all. Every estimate requires a conversation with sales. It does run an unusual "ARR milestones" model where costs decrease as the vendor grows, which is genuinely different from the standard SaaS ratchet and worth asking about directly — but the lack of transparency means you cannot compare it against anything without a call.

Ticketing, SLAs, and everything ITIL
Halo is the only one of the two that has this at all, and it has it seriously: change management, incident management, and a service catalogue out of the box, aligned to ITIL for compliance-minded teams. The Enterprise Service Management story extends the same engine into HR, legal, facilities, and finance, so one platform runs every internal queue in the company. Codeless automation means workflow rules and AI automation can be configured without a developer, which materially lowers the cost of ownership relative to enterprise ITSM incumbents.
NinjaOne has alerting and automated remediation, which is a different thing. An alert fires, a script runs, the disk gets cleaned. There is no approval board, no SLA clock, no change record.
What lands on the endpoint
NinjaOne is the only one of the two that has this at all, and it is very good at it: policy-based OS and third-party app patching across all three operating systems, continuous health monitoring with alerting before users notice, and RMM plus backup plus remote access plus documentation in a single console. It has held a G2 Grid leader position for over 23 consecutive quarters, which is a long time to stay at the top of a crowded category.
The consolidation argument is the real one. Teams that come to NinjaOne are usually carrying a separate RMM, patch tool, backup product, and remote access licence, and collapsing four contracts into one is where the savings show up.
Onboarding effort
Halo's implementation complexity is high. Enterprise deployments need dedicated project time and internal change management, and smaller teams routinely find the feature breadth excessive and the onboarding slower than a lighter tool. You should budget weeks and a person.
NinjaOne includes onboarding in the price and is designed to be live quickly. That gap in effort is not a small consideration — it is often the deciding one for a 30-person IT team with no spare project capacity.
Verdict
If you are an MSP or a large IT department, you are probably buying both, and the real question is sequencing: start with NinjaOne if your endpoints are the fire, start with Halo if your process is. If you must pick one, choose Halo when the organisation is big and messy enough that service delivery across departments is the actual bottleneck, and choose NinjaOne when device sprawl is the bottleneck and you want a number, a trial, and a working fleet inside a month. A small support desk with a simple queue should buy neither — Halo will be over-engineered and NinjaOne solves a problem you do not have.
